Backyard Composting Classes

The City of Arlington Master Composter volunteers hold composting classes the second Saturday of every month at the composting display in the Science Center's parking lot area. The class includes demonstrations of proper pile building, and a worm compost bin. Attendees will receive a free book. No need to register, just show up. Dress for the weather. Discount Hurricane Harbor Tickets

Purchase tickets to Six Flags Hurricane Harbor for the low price of just $17 (a savings of almost $13) at River Legacy Living Science Center's Acorns Gift Shop while supplies last! Tickets are valid any operating day of Hurricane Harbor's 2013 season which begins May 11 and runs through Sept. 15. All proceeds from ticket sales benefit River Legacy Foundation's environmental education programs at River Legacy Living Science Center. Tickets can be purchased between 9 am and 5 pm Mondays through Saturdays at the gift shop inside the Center. Nature Hike

Venture further into the park in this 3-hour hike led by a Master Naturalist. Hike will begin and end at River Legacy Living Science Center, and although it is a longer hike, it will be led at a slow and leisurely pace so participants can learn more about our native flora and fauna. Texas Bumblebee Watch

Most people are aware of the decline of the non-native European honeybee, but few are aware of the decline of native Texas bumblebees. During this adult workshop at River Legacy Living Science Center, Texas Parks and Wildlife invertebrate biologist Michael D. Warriner will teach participants the importance of these native insects and how to identify them and report their locations. Best suited for ages 10 and up.
