Our Charge

Our Vision

  • To preserve a living legacy for future generations.

Our Mission

  • To preserve and enhance land along the Trinity River and its tributaries as an extraordinary educational, recreational and natural resource.

Our Values

  • Preservation of land along the Trinity River and its tributaries
  • Environmental stewardship through education
  • Public access for recreational activities that maintain the environmental integrity of the Parks

Our Philosophy of Preservation

River Legacy Parks should be preserved, managed and restored in a manner that protects the Parks’ reservoir of biological diversity. Natural areas must be carefully managed for long-term preservation. This will ensure the legacy of the land for future generations.

Our Philosophy of Education

The educational experiences provided by River Legacy Foundation give people the opportunity to deepen their understandings of the environment and their relationship to it. Our educational experiences will:

  • Serve to inspire a sense of wonder
  • Foster a sensitivity to, and an appreciation for, the natural world
  • Encourage the development of an environmentally literate and concerned citizenry
  • Promote environmental stewardship

Our Philosophy of Recreation

Recreational activities within River Legacy Parks should support the Foundation’s mission of preservation. They should also not endanger the environmental integrity of the Parks or the safety of park users. Potential activities must be measured against a nature standard, as well as an urban standard.
