COVID-19 Response

Update on Fall Festival and A Night with Nature Events
August 14, 2020

After careful and thoughtful consideration of all of our options, mandated by the COVID-19 pandemic, River Legacy Foundation has made the heartbreaking decision to cancel our beloved family event, the 24th annual River Legacy Fall Festival (formerly After Dark in the Park) previously scheduled for October 10th and 11th. We are also canceling our 9th annual A Night with Nature social event that was scheduled for November 6th. This year, the 31st Cardboard Boat Regatta was also canceled because of COVID-19, and our Sporting Clay Shoot has been postponed until October 25th.

River Legacy Foundation is a non-profit organization that depends on fundraisers like these throughout the year to maintain exhibits, 90+ animal ambassadors, free family festivals, and educational programs.

The GOOD NEWS is that we have already started planning for both events in 2021 without hesitation. We will miss seeing all of our supporters, sponsors, current and former River Legacy Nature School families, and our incredible army of volunteers that are instrumental in the success of these events. All of you are also instrumental in helping us meet new friends that want to accept our invitation to Fall in Love with Nature.

River Legacy Nature Center is currently open to the public Thursday – Saturday from 9 AM – 5 PM. If you haven’t experienced the River Legacy Discovery Room inside the nature center, please come see us. We are following all sanitation guidelines and we welcome visitors. We appreciate your continued support and encourage you to check our website, riverlegacy.org and follow us on social media for the most up to date information. Our days of operation are expected to increase in the near future. We look forward to seeing you!

River Legacy Nature Center Reopening

Everyone at River Legacy Foundation is excited to welcome you back to the Nature Center on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM beginning Thursday,  July 9th.

The health and safety of our guests, staff, and volunteers is our priority! The Staff is working to meet and exceed current COVID-19 health and safety protocols and precautions to safely reopen the Center.

Please continue to check our website and social media channels for updates as they are made.

We are so grateful for your support.

River Legacy Virtual Summer Camp

PARKING

Our new parking lot inside the main entrance to River Legacy Park will be closed while the gabions are being rebuilt. This project is designed to reduce erosion and ensure public safety in Snider Creek by the pedestrian bridge. That entrance will be closed until construction is complete.

Please park in the parking lot on the east side (Parking Lot at Green Oaks and North Cooper Street.) of the Nature Center and follow the directional signs for safe entry and exit.

ADMISSIONS

Please use credit cards instead of cash when possible. The Discovery Room will be open Thursdays,  Fridays and Saturdays from 9 am – 5 pm during Phase I of the reopening plan.

SAFETY MEASURES

Our plan is to promote healthy hygiene practices such as frequent hand washing for 20 seconds and avoid touching your face with unwashed hands. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the center. Due to Executive Order of County Judge B. Glen Whitley Issued on June 25, 2020, face coverings will be required. Please click here for more details of the Executive Order.

We have intensified cleaning protocols including regular disinfection of high touch surfaces. We plan to close the Discovery Room between 12pm – 1pm for sanitization of the interactive components. Thank you for your patience during this one-hour sanitization time.

Prior to reopening, staff and volunteers will undergo extensive training regarding safety, public health and operational measures.

HOURS

General hours of operation for Phase I of our reopening plan are Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm beginning Thursday,  July 9, 2020.

Update on Fall Classes
July 24, 2020

On Tuesday, July 21, 2020, Tarrant County Public Health and Human Services issued an order requiring school districts and non-religious private schools to start classes using only virtual learning through September 27, 2020. Based on this order, we have decided to delay the start of Nature School until Monday, September 28 when we plan to offer in person learning.

When the past academic year began, none of us could have imagined the situation in which we would now find ourselves. We are very conscious of the upheaval it has brought to everyone’s lives and we hope that you are adjusting well and are healthy.

As the COVID-19 situation continues, we are sure that you are wondering what the upcoming school year will be like. While we don’t know what the course of the pandemic will be over the coming year, we do want to give you a preliminary sense of how we’re planning to resume our in-person as soon as we can.

The health and safety of our students, staff and guests will continue to lead our decision-making. Currently, we plan to have in place several different measures to prevent, track, and respond to COVID-19. As a licensed childcare facility, we have minimum standard health protocols that we are required to follow. With those in mind, some of our safety planning includes:

Intensified cleaning and disinfecting efforts

Modified drop off and pick up procedures in the circular drive at the front of the building which will include screening procedures

Increased hand hygiene by students and staff

Incorporating more outside activities where feasible

With the procedures listed above in place, please note that we cannot social distance in our classrooms and we will not require students to wear masks.

As the school year approaches, we will update you in more detail as this public health situation becomes clearer and as our preparations sharpen.

For those of you who are on a payment plan and have postponed your payments, we ask that you pick up where you left off. We are encouraging everyone to make their next payment by August 15 and the subsequent payments each month thereafter. If you have any questions regarding your tuition status, please contact our registrar by email at jennifer@riverlegacy.org or by calling 817-860-6752 ext 102.

We miss our students and we know they are ready to return!

Update on Summer Classes
May 12, 2020

River Legacy Foundation has made the difficult decision to cancel all in-person summer classes and programs for the Summer 2020 season. However, we are offering a new and exciting virtual Summer Camp experience.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience this change in plans may cause but your family’s health and well-being is our number one priority at River Legacy. COVID-19 restrictions and precautions limit our ability to safely offer classes onsite for this summer.  We are disappointed.  We will miss exploring and discovering nature together in person.

The leadership staff and Board of Directors do not want the children and families in our community to miss out on a summer of discovery.  We are working hard to develop and modify plans so that we can offer high quality, interactive nature exploration programming virtually.  Our virtual summer camps feature minds-on/hands-on lessons and activities for your child(children) at home. Please click here to see Camp topics.  There are two Camps (one in June and one in July) per age/grade group.  Campers may sign up for one or both camps for their age group.

Virtual camps are offered at a reduced rate this summer. We will transfer your current in-person class registration to our NEW virtual summer camp programs. Your previous registration means that you have top priority for all Virtual Summer Camps. You have choices about how to process the difference in tuition pricing.  Please reply to this email to let us know which of the options listed below will work best for your family.

The following options are available for previously paid Summer 2020:

– My child(ren) will participate in the virtual Summer Camp including a fun resource packet option at a reduced price. Camp activities, explorations and video content will be emailed daily for 5 days. Camp resource packets will be available for pick up the week before your Camp.  Any remaining balance will be returned in the form of original payment or can be reassigned as a 100% tax deductible donation.

– My child(ren) will NOT participate in the virtual Summer Camp. Make a full or partial tax deductible donation of the difference in tuition to River Legacy Living Science Center to support our animals and our mission.

– Reassign tuition funds to Summer Classes 2021

– Reassign tuition funds to Nature School  for the 2020 – 2021 school year.

– 100% refund of paid tuition.

Please send Summer Camp requests and tuition choices via email to: jennifer@riverlegacy.org

COVID-19 restrictions and precautions have created many challenges.  We are so glad you are part of the River Legacy Foundation family. Thank you for sticking with us – because that’s what family does in difficult times.  We will get through this TOGETHER even while we are apart.
