Today, we’re diving into a fun and eco-friendly craft that not only repurposes old plastic bottles but also helps feed our feathered friends. Instead of tossing your used plastic bottles—like water, soda, or milk jugs—into the trash (or hopefully, the recycling bin), why not turn them into DIY bird feeders?

Simple Steps to Create a Bird Feeder

All you need is a plastic bottle, some string or twine, and a few simple tools.

To get started, grab a plastic water bottle of any size, cut a hole near the bottom large enough for birds to access the seeds, and tie some string around the top to hang it from a tree branch or hook. If you want to go the extra mile, you can add a perch using a pencil, paintbrush, or even a stick from your yard—secured with some durable duct tape.

Don’t forget to poke a few drainage holes at the bottom to keep the seeds dry in case of rain. Once the basics are done, fill the bottle with birdseed, and your simple feeder is ready to hang outside!

Get Creative with Your Feeder

For those looking to add a creative twist, you can take it up a notch. By cutting off the top of the bottle, you can create a roof for your feeder, and decorate it with acrylic paints, sharpies, or other craft materials. This is a great activity to do with kids, especially when you’re looking for a productive way to spend time at home.
