Hike with a Naturalist
Bundle up and join us for a free guided hike at River Legacy Nature Center on January 17, led by our expert naturalists. This is a relaxed, exploratory hike with no set theme—which means our naturalists will talk about whatever nature decides to show us that day.
January is a fascinating time to be on the trails. As we hike, naturalists may point out things like:
- Winter birds and how they survive colder months
- Animal tracks and signs left behind in the soil or along the trail
- Evergreen vs. deciduous trees and how plants adapt to winter
- Insects, seeds, fungi, or other surprises you might not expect to find in January
- How the ecosystem changes seasonally and what winter reveals that other seasons don’t
This is a family-friendly hike, and the experience will be adjusted based on who attends:
- Families with younger children will explore a shorter, family-friendly trail
- Adults or older participants looking for a deeper dive will be guided on our loop trail
- The hike will be modified as needed depending on group makeup and winter weather conditions
