On December 31st, 2024, River Legacy Nature Center was honored to be featured on the City of Arlington’s “Culture Buzz” news column, highlighting our exciting visiting exhibit, Bug Squad.

The “Culture Buzz” segment included both English and Spanish video features, showcasing the exhibit’s fun and educational aspects to a broad and diverse audience. Shannon Porter, Executive Director of River Legacy, shared her insights in the English segment, while Naturalist Jorge Garcias brought the exhibit to life in Spanish, connecting with the local Hispanic community.

Bug Squad, created by Omaha Children’s Museum, has captivated guests with larger-than-life animatronic bugs, interactive activities, and educational displays. Visitors of all ages have learned about the unique “superpowers” of insects, from dragonflies with their 360-degree vision to lightning bugs that light up the night. This exhibit offers families a hands-on opportunity to discover the essential role insects play in our ecosystems.

Our partnership with the City of Arlington has been invaluable in amplifying our mission of connecting communities to nature. Through features like “Culture Buzz,” we can share the wonder of exhibits like Bug Squad with even more residents, encouraging them to visit and explore the magic of nature. We are incredibly grateful to the City of Arlington for their continuous support and for recognizing the value of nature education in fostering a stronger, more connected community.

We are especially grateful to our sponsors—Baylor Scott & White, Viridian, Capital Streetscapes, Sa-So, and Wells Fargo—for making this exhibit possible. Their generosity allows us to bring educational programs like Bug Squad to the community, fostering a deeper connection to nature and inspiring the next generation of conservationists.

The Bug Squad exhibit will remain at River Legacy Nature Center through February 8th, 2025, giving families plenty of time to experience its wonders. We invite everyone to come and see firsthand what makes this exhibit so special!
