We never expected an exchange between a bullfrog and a snake to become our wildest marketing team, yet here we are, sending a huge thank you to our newest social media stars.

Our Public Programs Manager, Dr. Ellen, caught this rare moment on camera, but we never dreamed it would spark a global sensation. Within 24 hours, the video skyrocketed to 1 million views. Today, it has captured the hearts of over 14.1 million viewers worldwide!

Since then, the spotlight has stayed bright on our 1,300-acre urban oasis. A casual bobcat trotting confidently across our park bridge, a terrarium copperhead snake enjoying its dinner, and a terrarium lizard sprinting at full speed toward its lunch have all captured the internet’s attention.

“An Outdoor Zoo” in the Heart of DFW

One commenter perfectly captured the magic, writing, “River legacy is like visiting an outdoor zoo!” Another simply dubbed us “that viral nature center in Texas.”

While our resident wildlife are certainly the stars of the show, these viral videos have given us an incredible gift: an online platform for nature education. We are using every single view as a chance to connect people with the vital ecosystem of the Trinity River.

Behind the Views: Our Mission as a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit

Seeing millions of people engage with our local wildlife is deeply moving, but there is a vital story behind the screen. River Legacy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We do not rely on state or federal funding to keep these habitats thriving; instead, we depend entirely on the generosity of people like you.

Every educational program, community festival, and native habitat restoration project is powered by community support. We want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who supports us:

Our Donors: Your financial gifts fund hands-on STEM programs for thousands of students each year.

Our Volunteers: From helping during our summer camps and festivals to rolling up your sleeves for habitat restoration through privet patrol, you keep our sanctuary beautiful.

Our Dedicated Team: The passionate staff and visionary board members work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our gates open.

Step Away from the Screen and Into the Woods

Watching a lizard sprint across a phone screen is entertaining, but nothing compares to the real thing. We invite you to trade your screen for the canopy and experience these wonders firsthand.

Whether you want to explore 8 miles of paved Arlington nature trails, see our native wildlife terrariums, or enroll your kids in our popular educational programs, there is a place for you here.
